Loop for Cable Management above the ceiling from Arlington Industries Inc. is a new, safe, and easy way to hang and dress cable; The loop is more cost effective and protects the cable better than a metal j-hook or zip ties. When hanging Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, or fiber optic cable with a zip tie, it has a tendency to dig into or possibly crimp the cable which can compromise the quality and functionality of the cable. The Loop, however, does not cut into the cable at all because it can’t be over tightened. The Loop closes with a patented locking system that can easily be unlocked to add more cable or remove unwanted cable but will not come unlocked if cable is being pulled through it. >> Browse at cablesupply.com

Category 5 cable, commonly referred to as cat 5, is a twisted pair cable for carrying signals. This type of cable is used in structured cabling for computer networks such as Ethernet. The cable is suitable for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX (Fast Ethernet), and 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet). Cat 5 is also used to carry other signals such as telephony and video. Most Category 5 cables are unshielded, relying on the twisted pair design for noise rejection. Some, however, are shielded. Category 5 has been superseded by the Category 5e specification structured cabling for computer networks such as Ethernet, and is also used to carry many other signals such as basic voice services, token ring, and ATM (at up to 155 Mbit/s, over short distances).
The specification for Category 5 cable was defined in ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-A, with clarification in TSB-95. These documents specified performance characteristics and test requirements for frequencies of up to 100 MHz.
Category 5 cable includes twisted pairs in a single cable jacket. This use of balanced lines helps preserve a high signal-to-noise ratio despite interference from both external sources and other pairs (this latter form of interference is called crosstalk). It is most commonly used for 100 Mbit/s networks, such as 100BASE-TX Ethernet, although IEEE 802.3ab defines standards for 1000BASE-T – Gigabit Ethernet over category 5 cable. Each of the four pairs in a Cat 5 cable has a differing precise number of twists per meter based on prime numbers to minimize crosstalk between the pairs. On average there are 6 twists per 5 centimeters. The pairs are made from 24 gauge (AWG) copper wires within the cables.
CAT 5E Cable Standards:
Specification for CAT5E cable was defined in ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-A and in TSB-95. This specifies performance characteristics and test requirements for frequencies. Cable types, connector types and cabling topologies are defined by TIA/EIA-568-B. Nearly all connections are 8P8C mod connectors (RJ45 connectors) that are used for connecting CAT5E cable. Cable is terminated in either the T568A scheme or the T568B scheme. These two schemes work equally well and may be mixed in an installation so long as the same scheme is used on both ends of each cable.
The cable is available in both stranded and solid conductor forms. The stranded form is more flexible and withstands more bending without breaking. Permanent wiring is solid-core, while patch cables are stranded.
Note: The specific category of cable in use can be identified by the printing on the side of the cable.

The difference between Cat 5e and Cat6 Ethernet Cable:
Cat6 cable is more reliable at higher speeds than Cat5e. Cat 6 is backward compatible with Cat 5e, so you can mix and match, but they are different on the inside, where it counts. If you mix them, you’ll never reach the full performance level you would if you used only cat6 cable, cat6 jacks, cat6 mod plugs and cat 6 patch panels. Until recently, most home and office routers supported lower speeds, so Cat6 wasn't necessary, however Gigabit Ethernet routers have now become more common. Both Cat5e and cat6 cables can both work with Gigabit Ethernet. Cat 5e cable is enhanced to reduce interference so that it can reliably deliver gigabit speeds. However, Gigabit Ethernet still pushes cable to its limits so cat6 may be the preferred choice. Cat6 cable is certified to handle Gigabit speeds, it's meant to handle it and it does. It's also suitable for 10-Gigabit although at that point, you're pushing the limits of Cat6. Cat6 cable also has more stringent specifications for crosstalk and system noise than Cat 5e does. That means you'll get fewer errors on a system operating via Cat6.
